ARSENAL: The Gunners could have a rival to their interest in Fulham's Chris Smalling - Manchester United are reportedly preparing a £7m bid for the former Maidstone centre-half (Express). Injuries to Rio Ferdinand and John O'Shea have left them short at times this season, with Nemanja Vidic's head seemingly elsewhere.
(They are also looking at Milan flop Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Star), but only for a cut-price deal.)
BLACKBURN: Benni McCarthy's move to West Ham was on the rocks after Rovers demanded £2.5m for him but he skipped training so could be allowed to leave for less. If not, Sam Allardyce will discipline him. Seems harsh as they are trying to get rid, but The Express are calling it a full-on strike.
BURNLEY: The Clarets have expressed an interest in taking Danny Fox back to England. The Scotland left-back only joined Celtic from Coventry in the summer.

EVERTON: The Toffees move for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is gaining momentum (several papers). The Milan forward cannot buy a start at the moment but is a top player and would be an impressive replacement for Jo.
FULHAM: Roy Hodgson may have to look elsewhere after FC Basel insisted Swiss striker Marco Streller is going nowhere. They could revive their interest for Stefano Okaka, the Roma striker (Independent).
MANCHESTER CITY: A £12m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago has been rejected, with Los Merengues holding out for around £6m more as the Argentina man's time at the Bernabeu seems to be up (Sun). Gago, still only 23, has fallen out of favour since Madrid signed the world and his dog in the summer, with Xabi Alonso and Lassana Diarra preferred in central midfield.
(if that does not work, Roberto Mancini will raid former club Inter for Brazilian midfielder Thiago Motta. He would join on loan.)
MANCHESTER UNITED: Anderson is set to leave Old Trafford after failing to show for training, according to The Sun. The Brazilian was dropped from the squad for the 4-0 win against Hull after playing poorly in the Carling Cup defeat to Manchester City and is on the wrong side of boss Sir Alex Ferguson. He cost around £20m when he joined from Porto but expect him to go on loan or for less than half that.
SUNDERLAND: The Black Cats are rumoured to have made a £10m bid for Younes Kaboul as they try to shore up a defence that leaked seven against Chelsea a few weeks back (Star).
TOTTENHAM: Harry Redknapp wants Roman Pavlyuchenko to stay but the player, it seems, cannot be bothered with being fourth-choice any more. Giovani dos Santos, meanwhile, is set to end his White Hart Hell and move to Galatasaray as part of Frank Rijkaard's revolution (Sun).
WEST HAM: They said they needed two strikers but the £100k-a-week option is unlikely, so the two Davids are eyeing another cheapish option to compliment McCarthy: Argentine forward Carlos Menseguez, of San Lorenzo, could move on loan. His track-record does not bode well though - West Brom chose not to take up their option after a short and unsuccessful loan spell last season.
CHAMPIONSHIP: Middlesbrough are close to signing Stephen McManus from Celtic after Gary Caldwell opted to join Wigan from the Hoops instead. Gordon Strachan is also set to swoop for Wayne Routledge in a £1.75m deal from QPR.
